ASCEND

African Synthesis Centre for Climate Change, Environment and Development (ASCEND) aims to accelerate discoveries for more rapid, equitable, and sustained action on climate change and development for vulnerable people and places.

ASCEND will help reshape power relations in climate change research, with Global South teams setting agendas, leading ground-breaking research, and delivering discoveries for enhanced climate and development action.

 The Ethical Agency was appointed to develop the brand for the new centre at The University of Cape Town. We worked in close collaboration with the team at ASCEND to produce the following:

• A new logo and associated stationery
• Powerpoint presentation slide deck
• Pull up banners
• Brochures
• Website redesign and build

LOGO DESIGN CONCEPT

The African Synthesis Centre for Climate Change, Environment and Development (ASCEND) is the world’s first climate change research centre of its kind. The logo design concept portrays two storms colliding and signifies a well-understood symbolic concept within the science and environmental communities. The intention of the design was also to articulate [research] collaboration and communication (two entities engaged in dialogue) whilst portraying a circular motion and movement, which propagates the idea of circularity and a circular economy.
